Dr. Hye-Won Shin is a biomedical engineer with a chemical engineering background and clinical translational research experience. She holds a Ph.D. in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering from UCI. Dr. Shin’s areas of research expertise and interest include: minimally-invasive medical technology for early detection of inflammation and infection, mobile health technology for chronic disease management, biomarkers, biotransport, and multiscale systems integration. Dr. Shin also focuses on developing biomedical and social interventions that can reduce racial and ethnic health disparities, specifically among Asian immigrants with limited English proficiency.
Dr. Shin serves as the Chief Scientific Officer & Chief Global Affairs Officer at RIIID Medical Group (https://riiidmedical.com); the Director of Asian American Community Outreach at UCI Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders (, https://mind.uci.edu); and a Community Advisory Board member for the CARE research project (https://careregistry.ucsf.edu) by representing Somang Society.
At Somang Society, Dr. Shin develops research projects, manages community education programs, runs Somang Advisory Board, establishes collegial partnerships with higher education research institutions (i.e., UCI Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders (UCI MIND), UCSF, University of Texas at Arlington), and develops strategic partnerships with non-Korean organizations serving older adults (i.e., Alzheimer’s Orange County, Alzheimer’s Los Angeles, and OC Aging Services Collaborative)..
